Dice, Books, and Characters

In order to start playing D&D, you will need some basic resources. First, you need dice. D&D uses 7 dice: 4-sided d4s, 6-sided d6s, 8-sided d8s, 10-sided d10s and d100s, and 20-sided d20s. All have their own uses, though the d20 is by far the most used. You will also need character sheets. Character sheets are detailed pages with spaces for all of the information you need to make a character. Name, race, class, xp, background, equipment, weapons, abilities, spells, and stats are most of the information stored on a sheet. Lastly, you need the books. D&D has many, many books. A couple are rule books, but the vast majority are campaigns, pre-designed adventures to run players through. In order to start, you absolutely need The Player's Handbook, The Monster Manual, and unless you feel like you can make your own adventure with no help, an adventure book or The Dungeon Master's Guide.
